Hi, I'm Katie....
I am an instructional coach in the Leyden school district just outside of Chicago.  Before becoming a coach, I taught high school English for 14 years. I spent 3 years in the great state of Missouri and the last 10 in the Chicagoland area. I grew up in Champaign, Illinois, but was brave enough to cross the state lines into Missouri for college and grad school. The Border War basketball game in St. Louis in December is still one of the most raucous family events for me. I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with an undergraduate degree in English Education in 2002 and a Masters of Education in 2003. I spent my first year teaching as a part of the MU Fellows program at David. H. Hickman High School (home of the Kewpies--no joke!) in Columbia. I spent my next 2 years in St. Louis, teaching English at Pattonville High School. After 3 years, my home state was calling, so I packed my bags for the windy city and have been there ever since.
I live in the city and spend my time enjoying all that it has to offer. I love to explore and travel almost as much as I love cheering on the Cubs (my parents raised me right). In 2012, I earned my second master's degree in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University.
My passions lie in getting students and teachers excited about new and exciting learning opportunities. Whether it's engaging students in the world beyond the school walls, encouraging teachers to create authentic learning experiences for their students, or working with parents and the outside community to increase communication and share the greatness going on in our building, my goal is to encourage, capture and ignite learning.
I have served on the technology leadership team, as a curriculum level-leader, and I am a professional development facilitator).  I am also a Google Educator and an Authorized Google Apps for Education Trainer.
When I'm not in the school building, I'm typically enjoying what the world has to offer. You might find me cheering on my hometown teams (Cubs, Bears, Hawks, and Bulls), enjoying a great book and cup of coffee on my front porch, chasing my daughter, Harper, cooking a great meal for my family and friends or travelling to a new place. Regardless of where I am, you can always find me on Twitter (@edu_katied) or Google+ (+edukatied).
